  • Princess Cruises is a cruise ship tour operator that has been cruising in the ocean for more than half a century. This cruise company is owned by the Carnival Corporation, which is the world's largest Travel and Leisure Company that owns around 10 cruise lines and has several years of experience in this industry.
  • The company that has its headquarters in California USA is the second-largest cruise company in the world in terms of its annual revenue. This company has a huge employee base of more than 30,000 employees working for it and it has offices around the world.
  • The famous American TV show called The Love Boat made this cruise line very popular because it featured Pacific Princess Ship of Princess Cruises. This ship was built in 1975 and operated by Princess Cruises until the year 2002.
  • Princess Cruises has somewhere around 18 ships in its fleet, which are of various sizes and have been acquired by this company over time. Their largest operational ship is called the Sky Princess which has a gross tonnage of more than 140,000 tons.
  • The company is incorporated in Bermuda and this is the reason why all of its ships except for one, carry the flag of Bermuda. That one exception is the ship called Sapphire Princess that carries the flag of the United Kingdom. This ship was originally going to be the Diamond Princess but it caught fire during construction and its delivery got delayed which is it was renamed as Sapphire Princess.
  • They are one of the well-known names in the cruising market and their ships have a very unique and beautiful design, there is a lot of innovation that goes into the construction of these ships and they offer a very wide variety of entertainment and dining options for its guests.
  • Princess Cruises are world-famous for their destinations and they offer cruises in the following destinations; Alaska, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mexican Riviera, Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, South Pacific, Hawaii, Tahiti, Asia, Africa, India, and Canada.
  • This company is also known for its many innovations in the cruising industry. They introduced the balconies outside cabins on their cruise ships and that has evolved into an industry-standard where every ship offers such facility. They introduced the concept of watching movies under an open sky and the theaters beside swimming pools.
  • A different thing about this cruise line is that they do not offer tea, free of cost. You actually have to pay money for each cup of tea that you have on the cruise which is very unlikely on a cruise, as the majority of them offer unlimited tea and coffee in the package price. If you are a tea lover then you need to be careful about this.
  • If you are planning on going on a little shopping spree while on the ship then you need to make sure that you have enough money for it because stuff can be really expensive on this ship. Even the food and beverages which are not included in your bundle price can be a little expensive and you just have to be thoughtful about it.

Health and Safety Protocols on Princess Cruises

Princess is actively working with public health officials and medical experts in an effort to do everything possible to prevent illness, including COVID-19, onboard Princess ships. Here are some actions that Princess is taking to ensure our guests can sail confidently and safely with Princess.

Changing Itineraries

Princess is constantly monitoring the global health map and cancel or modify itineraries to impacted areas. Princess also prevents guests and crew who have recently traveled through these high-risk locations from boarding.

Enhancing Health Requirements

Princess will deny boarding to guests and crew if they:

  • Have been in contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 or a person being monitored for COVID-19.
  • Are suffering from a fever or flu-like symptoms prior to embarkation.

Stepping Up Screenings

At embarkation, Princess will require all guests and crew to participate in mandatory health screenings, which may include a thermal scan to check temperatures, and in some cases secondary screenings. Depending on the results, Princess will deny certain individuals boarding if they feel they could pose a risk to others.

Enhancing Sanitation Procedures in Embarkation Terminals

Enhancing Sanitation Procedures in Embarkation Terminals Beginning in select terminals on March 7, 2020, highly touched surfaces throughout each embarkation terminal will be sanitized continuously, and terminals will be thoroughly sanitized and, where possible, fogged before and after each embarkation and debarkation.

Cleaning Everywhere!

In addition to the rigorous daily cleaning regimen they already have, Princess is establishing additional sanitation measures on all of their ships, which include sanitizing frequently touched surfaces in all public areas – from tables and chairs to casino chips and fitness machines – even more often than they did before.

Free-flowing Hand Sanitizer

Princess already has hand-washing sinks or hand sanitizer dispensers in front of entrances to all dining venues and the buffet. Crew will monitor entrances to all venues to encourage all guests wash their hands before entering. Princess is also adding additional hand sanitizer dispensers in high-traffic areas around the ship.

Keeping Crew Healthy

Each day, Princess is raising awareness daily of how to maintain a healthy environment on board by reinforcing frequent hand-washing, avoiding hand contact, reporting guests who present signs of illness and more. Princess will also more actively enforce crew hand-washing and provide more hand sanitizers in crew areas.

Revising Medical Protocols & Staying Prepared

Every Princess ship sails with a highly capable medical team that will receive special training for COVID-19. Any guest or crew member who exhibits symptoms of respiratory illness will strongly be encouraged to visit the Medical Center for a complimentary consultation and, if appropriate, screening for COVID-19.

24/7 Monitoring and Preparedness

Princess' team monitors world health developments from state-of-the-art Fleet Operations Center in Santa Clarita, California, and offices around the world 24-7. Princess is also in close contact with major health agencies, medical experts and partners in the travel industry so Princess can act quickly to revise plans and protocols as the situation evolves.

Smoking Policy on Princess Cruises

To prioritize the comfort of our guests and in response to consumer research showing that smokers make up a small minority, Princess Cruises has implemented the following smoking policy:

Designated Smoking Areas
Clearly marked “Designated Smoking Areas” are available on board, with sufficient ashtrays that are regularly emptied. These areas generally include cigar lounges, a section of the nightclub, and designated spots on the open decks. The Casino and Casino Bar are non-smoking areas, except for specific slot machines where smoking is allowed while playing. All table games are non-smoking. Show lounges, dining rooms, and all food service areas on board are also non-smoking. For safety, guests are reminded to properly dispose of cigarettes, cigars, and pipe tobacco, and to never throw them overboard, as this may lead to fires if sucked back into the ship.

Stateroom Smoking Policy
Princess Cruises strictly prohibits smoking or vaping (including e-cigarettes) in guest staterooms and on balconies. This policy reflects the preferences of the majority of our guests who wish for their primary living space to remain smoke-free. As balconies are an essential feature of Princess Cruises, we aim to keep these peaceful spaces clear of smoke. A $250 fine will be charged to the guest’s stateroom account for each violation of this policy. In line with global trends and respecting the wishes of our guests, we believe this policy enhances the onboard experience.

Tour guides for land excursions on these trips are usually made available according to the type of excursion that you will be taking. While this trip was definitely an experience due to the Galveston oil spill it definitely had highs and lows. The service was lacking in all areas with the exception of our dinner service in the main dining room Symphony. We had an exceptional waiter along with his team and was the most personable of all the staff we encountered. Elsewhere on the ship the service was lacking. I have cruised a multitude of times from Disney, Norwegian, Royal and Carnival. This was our first cruise with Princess, and while I won’t say “never again” it’s definitely note going to be a cruise line I plan on using again anytime soon. Very disappointed and not anxious to use again

Our itinerary was changed due to Hurricane Erin for our safety. I commend the Captain, crew and staff for their efforts. We were well informed about conditions as they evolved. Although our trip had to be extended by 2 days, I was grateful for the caution shown to protect passengers and crew.
